Volvo Bright vs Dark Theme: What's the Difference?

Volvo Bright vs Dark theme comparison

If you've been shopping for a new Volvo, you may have noticed either the "Bright" or "Dark" designation for each vehicle. These names signify two different styling options available on new Volvo models. The difference is simple: the Bright theme means the vehicle features chrome, silver, and body-color exterior accents, while the Dark theme means the vehicle has gloss black accents.

A few exterior elements on the vehicle change. They include:

  • Front grille
  • Front bumper accents
  • Window trim
  • Side mirrors
  • Roof rails
  • Rear bumper accents

So, for example, a Volvo with the Bright theme will have a chrome front grille, chrome window trim, chrome roof rails, painted side mirrors, and silver bumper accents. If you opt for a Volvo with the Dark theme, all those elements will be gloss black.

The theme does not affect the color of the wheels or any interior elements.

As of the 2024 model year, the XC90, S90, and V90 are only available with the Bright theme, while the XC60, S60, and V60 are only available with the Dark theme. The XC40 is available with either the Bright or Dark theme. Earlier generations of each model may also be available with the Bright or Dark theme.

Generally speaking, the Dark theme has a more modern and sporty aesthetic, while the Bright theme has a more traditional look. Volvo offers these two themes so you can better find the vehicle that matches your style.
